Last month I wrote about the programs of the Five Points Development Association as a key benefit of membership and meeting participation. This month I’m going to talk about a relatively new benefit—The Five Points Mixer.
Awhile back, several of us, lamented that because of our one hour noon meeting we didn’t have time to visit, discuss the program, share business information and just get to know each other. Obviously we needed another meeting! Thus the Mixer was born. This is a very informal get together on the fourth Tuesday of every month at 5:30 PM for an adult beverage if one chooses and great conversation about a wide range of subjects.
February’s Mixer was in my humble opinion the best ever thanks in a large part to our new member and board member Gary Monteleone. Gary, who owns what can only be called a one-stop entertainment venue, Monteleone’s on Gateway West, opened especially for us. We enjoyed delicious pizza, salad, wine and beer, and wide-ranging conversation. The best news is that he has offered to open again for us this month! Don’t miss this opportunity to get to know your fellow Five Points members in a relaxed informal setting accompanied by something good for the palate too.
As those who have attended our first two meetings of the year know, we are starting the year with three programs by the elected county and city representatives from our area. County Commissioner David Stout led things off followed by newly elected City Representative Chris Canales. If you missed last month’s program, you missed an opportunity to hear what our newest Representative is thinking about our neighborhood and city and to tell him your concerns and desires for Five Points.
This month’s program will wind up the series with City Representative Alexsandra Annello. Representative Annello is no stranger to the Five Points Development Association. She has been a strong advocate for our neighborhood interests, kept us informed and has been responsive to our concerns. She has served as our installing officer for the past several years. Much has happened since our last meeting. Perhaps the biggest change is the firing of the city manager. I‘m looking forward to hearing Representative Annello’s thoughts on the selection of a new city manager, how the firing will affect the hiring of a new police chief and her views on any changes in the direction of our city resulting from the changed make-up of City Council and a new City Manager. There’s something for everyone in this program and I look forward to seeing you all at Timo’s on Wednesday, March 15th at noon.
